How to Set Up CountryBlock

CountryBlock allows you to block access to your store from specific countries or IP addresses. You can also redirect visitors from blocked countries or IP addresses to another URL.

After installing CountryBlock, the Home page provides a Setup Guide to help you complete the main setup steps, including enabling the app embed and adding your first country and IP blockers.

Follow the steps below to get started.

Set up CountryBlock​

Step 1: Enable the app embed​

Before using the Country and IP blocker, enable the CountryBlock app embed.

From the Home page, find Enable app embed in the Setup Guide and click the button. You will be redirected to your Shopify Theme settings.

Enable the CountryBlock app embed, then return to the app.

Once the app embed is enabled, this step will automatically be marked as completed in the Setup Guide.

Step 2: Enable Country and IP blocker​

From the CountryBlock menu, go to Country/IP block.

The Country and IP blocker is turned off by default. Turn it on to start adding countries and IP addresses to your block list.

Once enabled, the Block list and Redirect them to URL settings will be available on the page.

Step 3: Add a country blocker​

To block visitors from a specific country, click Add item in the Block list.

Search for the country you want to block, then add it to the list.

You can also start this step from the Setup Guide on the Home page by selecting Add a Country blocker. CountryBlock will take you to the Country/IP block page and open the Add item window.

Once you have added a country blocker, the corresponding step in the Setup Guide will automatically be marked as completed.

Step 4: Add an IP blocker​

You can also block access from a specific IP address.

Click Add item, enter the IP address you want to block, and add it to the block list.

Alternatively, select Add an IP blocker from the Setup Guide on the Home page to open the Add item window directly.

Once an IP blocker has been added, the corresponding step in the Setup Guide will automatically be marked as completed.

Step 5: Redirect blocked visitors​

If you want visitors from blocked countries or IP addresses to be redirected to another URL, use the Redirect them to URL field.

Enter the URL you want blocked visitors to be redirected to.

When a visitor comes from a country or IP address included in your block list, CountryBlock will redirect the visitor to the URL you configured.

How the Setup Guide works​

The Setup Guide on the Home page includes three main setup steps:

  • Enable app embed
  • Add a Country blocker
  • Add an IP blocker

CountryBlock automatically marks each step as completed when the corresponding action has been completed.

You do not need to complete an action directly from the Setup Guide. For example, if you add a country directly from the Country/IP block page, the Add a Country blocker step will still be marked as completed.

Once a step has been completed, it will remain completed even if you later remove the country or IP blocker.

After all three steps have been completed, the Setup Guide will no longer appear on the Home page.

Check your blocking activity​

The Dashboard on the Home page provides an overview of the countries and IP addresses blocked during the last 30 days.

You can check this section to view your recent country and IP blocking activity.
